Bengaluru, 15 May 2017: Pool stage matches continued on Day 6 at the Hockey India 7th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Men) A Division today.
In the day’s opener from Pool C, Hockey Chandigarh beat Hockey Patiala 4-1. After a goal less first half, Hockey Chandigarh opened the scoring in the 46th minute via Sanjay. In a dominant performance, goals for Hockey Chandigarh were also scored by, Sahibjeet Singh (48’), Maninder Singh (66’) and Vishal Rana (70’). Hockey Patiala’s goal was scored by Manpreet Singh (65’).
In Pool B, Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Bihar 3-1. Hockey Bihar opened the scoring in the 30th minute via Johnson Purty. From there on though Hockey Haryana seized control scoring via Pankaj (41’), Pankaj (58’) and Vinit (66’) to take the points.
In Pool B’s second game, Manipur Hockey beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 8-4 in a high-paced free-flowing
encounter. A hat-trick for Stelin Singh Irengbam (21’, 60’, 70’) and a brace each for Ibungo Singh Konjengbam (8’, 12’) and Rabinchandra S Moirangthem (18’, 43’) gave Manipur Hockey a vital victory. N Naga Rohith scored a brace (26’, 69’) for Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu in the game.
Hockey Punjab beat Hockey Bhopal 3-2 in what was arguably the game of the day. The two teams traded blows in the first half, Hockey Punjab captain Raman Kumar’s 17th minute stroke cancelled out by Amaan Khan’s PC conversion in the 32nd minute. In the second half, Parteek Sharma restored Hockey Punjab’s lead in the 52nd minute. Six minutes later though Hockey Bhopal were level again, via a Saddam Ahmad goal. In the 61st minute, Jaspreet Singh scoredthe goal that would give Hockey Punjab a crucial victory for the three points.
